Keep My Hood Good

Updated: Jul 29

They teach life skills like growing food and civic responsibility to under-resourced youth in Jackson, TN.

Keep My Hood Good seeks to break the cycle of generational poverty in Jackson, Tennessee. Through structured activities, KMHG promotes personal, civic, and community responsibility for underserved, underprivileged youth. Ms. Juanita Jones began this program in 2009.

At the time, she transported children as part of Jay & Jai Transportation. They told her about their hopes, dreams, and concerns. Ms. Jones felt called in a greater way to help them overcome generational poverty.

This organization started as just playing kickball together in Lincoln Courts and Parkway East. Today, KMHG serves up to 26 children every week with creative and safe guided activities. They teach principles of accountability, excellence, integrity, and respect of self and to others.

Diversion activities include after-school programs from 3-6 pm. Students get transported safely to Riverside Drive. KMHG provides them with a snack, quality activities, life skills, and more. Some lessons include things like gardening, cooking, and CPR.

Keep My Hood Good is a women-led organization. They supplement formal education with valuable life skills to empower young people to rise from poverty. Produce grown from the garden gets donated to community members in need. Support KMHG in its mission by donating via the website.
